Self-styled godman’s ‘nude yagam’ stopped in Tiruvannamalai
The bizarre attempt of a self-styled godman to perform a yagam in nude caused a flutter on the girivalam path in Tiruvannamalai for some hours on Wednesday.
Tiruvannamalai
A team of revenue officials and police personnel after getting information about the ‘nude yagam acted swiftly and stopped the godman’s attempt.
According to sources, the godman, who called himself as Suryapragasananda, along with his cohorts commenced a yagam on a private land in front of the Raman Ashram on the girivalam path on January 23. The rituals were planned to be conducted till February 10.
Though the godman made a similar attempt last year, his yagam was stopped after the then district judge ordered his removal from the spot. This year too he started the yagam, but a team of revenue officials, led by sub collector Uma Maheswari, tahsildar K Manoharan and others, intervened at the right time and thwarted his attempt saying that the godman did not seek permission.
Noticing the arrival of a big team of officials, the godman and his accomplices left the yagam venue.
But, the action did not stop with this as officials then went to the godman’s place of stay and got a statement from all of them mentioning that they would not indulge in such acts in the town in the future.
