Chairing one such meeting in Dharmapuri district, he said: “Most of the issues raised during the meetings should have been addressed by the local bodies. Once the DMK comes to power, the local body polls will be conducted.”

Attacking the ruling AIADMK, Stalin termed the State government as ‘useless’ and said it was functioning as a benami to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Pointing out that the State government has failed to properly implement the Hogenakkal combined drinking water supply scheme, the DMK leader said around 40 and 50 per cent of areas in Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts respectively continue to remain dry as they haven’t received water. The scheme was launched by the DMK, with the financial support of Japan, to provide safe drinking water in the two parched districts.

Stalin said the scheme was inaugurated hurriedly by the AIADMK even before its completion to prevent the DMK getting the due credit. “The project will be executed fully once the DMK comes to power. It will end the water woes of both the districts,” he said.

Slamming the Chief Minister for failing to allot time to meet representatives of the protesting teachers and government staff, Stalin said: “The only concern of the present government is to remain in power, even though all sections of people in the State are staging protests.”

Stating that corruption and commission have pervaded in all government departments in Tamil Nadu, Stalin said the Chief Minister should step down and face the probe for his alleged involvement in the Kodanadu estate incident. He also reiterated that a fair probe will be conducted once his party comes to power. “All those involved will definitely be sent to prison,” he said.
