A manager of a private children’s home was arrested following complaints of sexually abusing 15 girls of the home in Tiruvannamalai on Tuesday.
Tiruvannamalai
The culprit, identified as Vinod Kumar (35), was the manager of the Arunai Children’s home at MKV Street at Ramana Nagarin the town.
According to Tiruvannamalai Collector KS Kandasamy the abuse came to light during the annual get together of the children from various homes at the government rehabilitation centre a couple of days ago.
Every year the children from such homes would be treated to quality food and taken on picnics with ample games for some days, the Collector said. At the end of the camp when the children were asked for written feedback on improvements they wish to see,the girls from the affected home hinted to the sexual harassment.
They hinted that things were not as it should be in the private institution. Following up on their feedback, when discreet inquiries were made it came to light that Vinod Kumar would take some of the girls to the terrace of the home and show them pornographic clippings on his mobile. He used to molest the girls and masturbate in front of them.
Based on these findings, the Arunai home was sealed and the 15 girls have been shifted to the government home in the district. Babu, who runs the facility escaped as there were no complaints against him.
Kandasamy also said that Vinod Kumar was married recently and his wife was pregnant. “It was a shock to her to know the dark side of her husband,” he said and added “he will be remanded soon.”
