JACTTO-GEO: Tiruvannamalai govt college students boycott classes in solidarity
Nearly 300 students of the Government Arts College in Tiruvannamalai boycotted their classes on Monday, in support of the protesting JACTTO-GEO members.

Staging a sit-in within the college campus, the students raised slogans supporting the strike and condemned the government for not fulfilling the demands put forth by the protesters.
Elsewhere, students sat in front of their locked Panchayat Union Elementary School at Amoor near Ranipet in Vellore district. Joined by their parents, the students raised slogans demanding that the school be opened.
On receiving information, Wallajahpet Tahsildar accompanied by police rushed to the spot. They broke the lock and ensured that the school resumed its functioning. Ranipet Inspector (in-charge) Ilakuvan then surprised everybody by taking a class on Tirukkural for nearly 50 minutes, officials said.
In another incident, angry parents numbering more than 50 besieged the PU Elementary School at Mel Monavoor in Vellore as only two teachers turned up for duty.
They raised slogans demanding the absenting teachers return to work, as the strike was affecting the future of their wards.
Students, temporary teachers chased away
Students and temporary teachers, who turned up for classes at the Panchayat Union Middle School at Sankarapuram near Gudiyattam, were chased away by a regular teacher, who supported the strike.
The latter locked up the school before leaving the premises. Irked by this, students and their parents blocked the Umarabad Road.
