Stalin questions CM’s silence on Mekedatu dam
DMK president M K Stalin on Wednesday questioned the silence of the State government when Karnataka submitted the Mekedatu dam proposal to the Centre, despite it violating the Supreme Court’s direction of consulting the Tamil Nadu government prior to taking any decision

Addressing party cadre at a wedding function here, Stalin said it was well known that the Karnataka government had submitted the project report to the Central government. “Still, the CM has not given any statement against this. He should have opposed it immediately as there is a directive to consult Tamil Nadu before submitting the report,” he said, adding that the entire people of TN have been left shocked by the CM.
Stalin pointed out that as many as 55 MPs cutting across the party lines had met the PM and appealed him not to permit the dam at Mekedatu. “Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, who spoke in the parliament in this regard, said the Centre will never permit Karnataka to construct the dam. He added that the project would be permitted after Karnataka consults its neighbouring states, including Tamil Nadu. But what has happened now?” asked Stalin.
Criticising the CM for his silence on the issue, Stalin said: “It is obvious that the ruling party s not concerned about the people of Tamil Nadu. Hence, it is necessary to remove the selfish people who work only for themselves.”
