None helped us in Lok Sabha on Cauvery: Thambidurai
Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker M Thambidurai on Tuesday blamed the Congress and the BJP for not supporting Tamil Nadu when the Cauvery water issue was raised in the Parliament.
Chennai
“AIADMK MPs were suspended for protesting against Karnataka’s Mekedatu proposal. None of the political parties came to our support. Despite the Supreme Court making it clear that no dam can be constructed across Cauvery without the consent of riparian states, the BJP government gave its nod for the detailed project report. I am not against the BJP, but there are cases where Tamil Nadu rights must be protected,” he said.
He added that the AIADMK MPs pleaded to revoke the suspension during Cauvery row in Lok Sabha. “Even the left parties and other regional parties stayed away from the issue. We were fighting for our denied rights and no help came from other political parties,” Thambidurai said justifying his anger against the national parties.
As of now the AIADMK and the BJP are friendly parties but there are issues affecting the welfare of Tamil Nadu, Thambidurai who has been cynical about the BJP said.
Regarding alliance, the AIADMK leader said that party leaders O Panneerselvam and Edappadi K Palaniswami has assured a victorious alliance. As of now we are focused on our party activities and alliance talks are yet to begin, he added.
Appears before one-man Commission
Earlier in the day, Thambidurai appeared before Arumughasamy Commission and deposed before it for more than three hours. “I have answered all the queries raised by the Commission and those details cannot be revealed to the media,” Thambidurai said. When asked about whether he was aware of the decision taken by the state Cabinet on the treatment given to former chief minister J Jayalalithaa, Thambidurai said he cannot answer the political questions.
Ousted AIADMK general secretary VK Sasikala’s advocate Raja Senthur Pandian told reporters that Thambidurai evaded most of the queries terming them as political and no comments. “We have demanded the cross-examination of more doctors including intensive care expert Dr Richard Beale,” Raja Senthur Pandian added.
