According to the order, the admin of the said group should be the station head officer (inspectors or sub-inspectors) of the respective police stations.

The circular further notes that in the said groups the good work done by the police persons should be updated with a photograph and video along with a small write up.

All the commissioners of police and superintendents of police are expected to send a compliance report to the head office by Friday, the circular further said. The group is exclusively for police persons only and not for members from public, a senior official noted.

It may be recalled that in May 2017, the then Chennai police commissioner Karan Singha had unveiled a plan for WhatsApp groups in all police stations in the city with station law and order inspector as group’s administrator and all stake holders from public as members. Then the idea was to create virtual police stations that are highly interactive.
