Coconut trader killed, wife battling for life
In a suspected case of murder for gain, an elderly man was killed and his wife battling for life after being attacked by robbers at Pongalur in Tirupur district on Thursday.

Palanisamy, 68, a coconut trader, was murdered and his wife Marathal, 63, suffered grievous injuries in the attack unleashed by the robbers.
Police were unable to gather information on the robbers as Marathal is in a serious condition and is yet to reveal anything on the attack. However, police confirmed that a five sovereign gold-chain worn by her was stolen and huge amount of cash kept in the house had gone missing.
The murder came to light on Thursday morning, when the milk man visited their house and found Palanisamy lying dead in pool of blood and his wife struggling for life.
Acting on his information, neighbours rushed the woman to a private hospital, while the body of the deceased was sent for post mortem to Tirupur GH. A police team led by Superintendent of Police Kayalvizhi visited the scene of crime and held inquiries.
Finger print experts and sniffer dog was pressed into service.
Police said the elderly couple’s married daughter has been living elsewhere, while their son Shanmugam, 27, had gone outstation on Wednesday on business.Â
Police are probing to find out if the workers employed by the couple were involved in the murder. Further investigations are on.
