Expo on compost yard inaugurated in Tiruchy
As part of its efforts to develop an efficient waste management system, the Tiruchy city corporation is keen on residents setting up individual compost yards in their households.

A public exhibition in this regard commenced on Friday, with officials setting a target of reaching out to least three lakh residents. Corporation Commissioner N Ravichandran, who was present during the inaugural function, encouraged the residents to take up efforts to recycle waste in their own backyard.
“Currently, we are 100 per cent successful in segregating the waste at the source. Similarly, residents should take efforts to establish a composting facility in their home to recycle the waste,” he said, adding that a competition would be organised among students to spread the message.
More than 30 participants from various parts of the State displayed small and large-scale home composting techniques at the exhibition. Stalls selling eco-friendly bags, disposable plates, organic products and cutlery items were alsoput up.
Several students, who visited the exhibition venue, enquired about the cost of various home composting facilities.
Meanwhile, residents of Kailash Nagar have responded to the corporation’s call. Over 100 houses in the locality have already established individual compost yards,sources said.
