Ban Tik Tok for objectionable content: PMK
PMK leader S Ramadoss on Tuesday demanded a ban on Tik Tok, a social media application.
Chennai
In a statement, Ramadoss said, “Tik Tok which was initially introduced as a useful app for youngsters is now filled with explicit sexual content and is affecting the life of youth. It should be banned in India.”
Tik Tok, a Chinese app, was launched in 2016. In it, people can exhibit their talents for 15 seconds. Initially, the app was welcomed as it was seen as a platform to express their talents but as days progressed the app was criticised for promoting sexual content.
Ramadoss said that the app had turned into an addiction and a large number of youngsters are using it. “Tik Tok has no regulations and the contents are not monitored. Due to the absence of regulation more youngsters are falling prey for the app,” Ramadoss added.
He also quoted foreign countries which have introduced regulations to monitor the app.
“In Indonesia the app was banned for promoting sexual content but after assurance from the app developers that the app would be monitored the ban was lifted,” said Ramadoss.
He also said that in India youngsters who are above 12 years can use the app but in USA, the Internet Regulatory body has suggested the government to increase the age limit to 16 for users.
Parents should be informed about the harmful effects of the app and the youth should be rescued from the addiction of the app, said Ramadoss.
