Plea against plastic ban GO dismissed
The last-ditch effort by the plastics manufacturing sector to earn a reprieve from the imminent ban on single-use plastic materials failed, with the Madras High Court refusing to stay the government order issued in this regard.

Going a step ahead, the vacation bench that heard the petition by Tamil Nadu Plastics Manufacturers Association (TNPMA) observed that the authorities should consider plastics of all kind, including the ones that have been granted exemption in the GO under contention. There now are only four days left for the ban to come into place – from January 1.
Though the petitioner contended that the State government did not have jurisdiction to pass such an order imposing the ban, the court did not agree with the argument and dismissed the petition.
