The ASDCs will span across five sectors including auto, auto components and machine tools, manufacturing and capital goods, transporting and logistics, hospital and health care services and construction and infrastructure.

The ASDC will associate with national and international partners (called Sector Partners) to setup an interrelated high technology, modular, skilling facility and offer demand driven courses.

A senior official from the Directorate of Technical Education Department told DT Next that the ASDCs will be designed by authorities in line with TN Vision 2023 and as part of the Tamil Nadu Investment Promotion Programme for students.

It is envisioned to be setup as state of the art Centre of Excellence (CoE) in which the government, in partnership with Multi-National Companies will bring in the best in-class equipment, tools, machines, simulators to be used for training purposes.

The ASDCs will run under the overall operational management of the selected MNC.

“The company will be responsible for devising and implementing a three-year rolling plan and ensuring that the ASDC is constantly upgraded and provides a high technology ecosystem for skilling, up-skilling, re-skilling, cross-skilling and multi-skilling,” added the official.

“It is proposed that the ASDC will evolve over its life into a CoE.

Therefore, in its business plan, the MNC will initiative the activities that will ensure the transition of the ASDC into a CoE”, the official added.

The official said that the ASDCs will be located in existing State-owned ITI and industrial states. They will also be associated with decentralized centres and spoke centres located in Chennai, along with facilities such as manufacturing, assembly or machining units for the purpose of training.

According to the senior official, the trainees who graduate from the ASDCs may also function as lead trainers for future programmes as it provides them employment and keeps the system dynamic.
