Free pattas for poramboke land: Govt frames rules

Accordingly, persons who have resided in non-objectionable poramboke land for over five years can be given free patta. Those living in panchayat limits can be given four cents of land, while those in municipalities and corporations can be given 2.5 and 2 cents respectively.

This direction stems from the recent GO which allotted free patta for persons residing in government poramboke land, classified into objectionable and non-objectionable, for over five years.

Objectionable lands are those on waterbodies, roads and grazing lands, while the rest fall into non-objectionable lands.

In case of non-objectionable poramboke lands, people living at the same place for more than five years can be issued patta after due verification by Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO).

However, in case of objectionable land, people would be evicted for its conservation. Slum Clearance Board tenements can be constructed where the evicted people can be housed.

In the case of people residing in objectionable poramboke land for several years, the GO has stated that the officials should look into the possibility of construction of houses by the Slum Clearance Board at the same place. The State Government has set a period of six months to complete the task of issuing free pattas to beneficiaries. It has also designated officials for the distribution of patta based on land value.
