The School Education Department’s decision comes after the Class 12 Chemistry question paper for the ongoing half yearly examination was leaked on Friday evening through social media.

Incidentally, the same paper was distributed among students on Saturday since government authorities were unable to change the question paper owing to paucity of time. Last week, there were reports of a few question papers missing from a school in Sivagangai districts.

“Incidents of question paper leak not only adversely affects the brand value of the education institution or university but also the government department,” a senior official from School Education Department told DTNext on Saturday.

The official added that authorities will soon work out ways to ensure that question papers are sent online to the schools. The system will begin on a pilot basis.

“ Henceforth, each school examination centre will have a login and the download can only happen two hours prior to the exam. The password will be communicated to the administrator to allow him access to the encrypted paper,” he noted.

According to him, the controller of examination will be able to track the entire process using a special software. This procedure will also help reduce cost of delivery of printed question paper at the examination centres.  “Even a strong room needed to store question papers and keeping a security guard could be avoided once the new method comes into practice,” the official said.
