AR personnel surrenders in Melur heist case
A 33-year-old Armed Reserved Police personnel stationed in Tirupur surrendered before Judicial Magistrate-IV in a local court in Madurai on Thursday, in connection with a robbery case.

The accused was identified as N Saravana Kumar (33), a resident of Pothumbu.
The incident occurred on December 6, when an armed gang broke into a house on Gandhiji Park Road in Melur, and robbed Rs 5 lakh cash and a cell phone worth Rs 15,000, keeping the inmates at gun point. Complainant Meera, one of the residents, along with two others including a servant, were present in the house when the incident occurred, while her husband Baskaran, a doctor, was away.
Four special teams deputed by IG, South Zone, KP Shanmuga Rajeswaran cracked the case. After inquiring Meera, it was revealed that Rs 70 lakh cash and gold ornaments including two bangles and a ring were robbed.
Sources said a gang of 26 criminals was indulged in the crime. So far, 19 men allegedly indulged in this sort of crime, were arrested. Among them, Kumar (32) of Thirumangalam, a CRPF personnel, was one of the detainees.
Preliminary inquiries revealed that Radhakrishnan, a dismissed police constable and Saravana Kumar were the brain behind such crimes. A hunt is on to nab the rest of the accused.
