Foundation stone laid for new court complex in Rameswaram
The Rameswaram district court was housed in a rented building ever since it came into existence in 2000. Finally, on Sunday, in presence of High Court Judges R Subramanian, PT Asha and Principal District and Sessions Judge A Kayalvizhi a foundation stone was laid to construct a new court in the district.

Sources at PWD said, the new court will be constructed on 3.5 acres of land at Nochivadi near Rameswaram at an established cost of Rs 6.70 crore.
Minister for Information Technology, M Manikandan, who was also a part of the event said, “The Government Law College, which is made operational in a rental building at Perungulam, would also get a state-owned new building at a cost of Rs 77 crore. The government would soon allot funds to establish the facility. Also, works are underway to bring up a special Mahila Court to try cases under the SC/ ST Act in Ramanathapuram.”
The Minister further added that the State government would urge the Centre to establish a Government Medical College in the district and also an airport at Uchipuli. This facility was mainly for the people of Ramanathapuram, who live abroad. Chief Judicial Magistrate M Sivaprakasam, Superintendent of Police Omprakash Meena, Collector (in-charge) Muthumari, president of Rameswaram Bar Association R Jothi Murugan and secretary of the association G Prabakar were also present.
