Rajini, Kamal to skip public meet of Opposition leaders
Actor-politicians Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth are expected to attend the unveiling ceremony for the statue of Karunanidhi.
Chennai
The new entrants to the political landscape may make their first public appearance together at the invitation of the DMK.
Ever since starting his political party in February this year, Kamal Haasan has said that he is open to the possibility of an alliance but has not declared his support to any party openly.
He had been perceived as close to the Congress after a meeting with Rahul. But this development might indicate a channel of communication with the DMK.
Similarly, Rajinikanth, who has been regarded as a proxy for the BJP, could cause more confusion than clarity by attending the event. However, the duo is expected to skip the public meeting following the unveiling at the YMCA Grounds in Nandanam.
In response to reports of a possible alliance between MNM-DMK and Congress, Kamal tweeted.
“Dear @maiamofficial Members and supporters, I came into politics for a reason. We will not detour in our journey for short term benefits. This is fake news. If need be, We shall stand alone. #NalaiNamadhe”.
