Rs 1.66-crore AYUSH Wellness Centre opened at MGR varsity
In order to create a system of coordination between the Indian medicine system and allopathic medicine, Dr MGR University on Wednesday inaugurated an AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy) Wellness Centre at their Institute.

Built at a cost of over Rs 1.66 crore, the 5,000 sq ft centre has space for registration, medical records, a waiting hall, three outpatient clinics with three treatment centres, a yoga hall and a medicine stock room. Equipment worth Rs 20 lakh have been installed for treatment purpose at the centre, which was inaugurated by Health Minister Dr C Vijaya Baskar on Wednesday.
Stating that the main purpose of establishing the Ayush Wellness Centre was to bring the Allopathy and Siddha, Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy systems together, Dr S Geethalakshmi, Vice Chancellor of the University, said, “The centre will offer better treatment to the public. The Indian system of Medicine, which has a history and tradition of over several millenniums, is considered as the pride of Tamil Nadu.”
“These systems are time-tested and provides us with effective treatment for chronic ailments and in the management of non-communicable diseases. Besides the meritorious management of diseases by each system, the integration of these systems will yield a better benefit to the society,” she added.
