Cops with ‘encounter order’ nab gang of 5
The police nabbed a five-member-gang with weapons near ICF on Tuesday night. The police had to threaten the gang with an “encounter order” before they surrendered.
Chennai
The arrested were identified as A Manavalan (26) from Perambur, S Gopinath (27) of Ayanavaram, R Udayakumar (23) from TP Chatram, R Rajkumar (21) of Kolathur and C Kriparaj (26) from Villivakkam. Four of them are history-sheeters.
The five accused, armed and high on narcotics, were hiding on the terrace of a house in Rajiv Gandhi Nagar when the police surrounded the building. The police noted that the suspects were trying to escape by jumping on to another terrace when they arrived on the spot. The gang also threatened to attack policemen with sickles.
When the gang refused to surrender, the police team threatened to shoot them. With no way of knowing that the policemen were not even armed, the gang of five came down from the building and surrendered. All five were arrested by the ICF police and remanded in judicial custody.
