Huge haul of gold, foreign currencies
Customs officials on Monday seized foreign currencies--Euros, USD, Australian dollars, Swiss Franc, UK Pounds, Malaysian Ringgits--to the tune of Rs 22.5 lakh, besides gold worth Rs 13 lakh and shuttle cocks valued at Rs 24,000 were seized on Monday from passengers who arrived at the Anna International here from abroad.

Air Flight was intercepted on suspicion. On search two thin gold rods weighing 398 grams of 24 karat purity valued at Rs 13 lakh and 25 dozen of ‘Yonexaerosensa’ shuttle cocks valued at Rs 24,000 were found concealed. The same recovered and seized under Customs Act, 1962.
In another seizure on Sunday night, it said, based on tipoff, five passengers bound for Kuala Lumpur by Air Asia Airlines flight were intercepted at the departure hall on suspicion that they might be carrying foreign currency. On search Euros, US Dollar, Australian dollars and Swiss Franc totally valued at Rs 12.5 lakh and Rs 10 lakh, kept in concealed wallets were recovered.
