49 VAOs held for stir against suspension of 3 colleagues
As many as 49 Village Administrative Officers (VAO) were arrested on Monday after they staged a protest outside the Ariyalur collectorate over the suspension of three fellow officers.

Rayar, Subash Chandra Bose and Prabhakaran were suspended on December 7 for reportedly getting into a quarrel with revenue inspector Karthikeyan and the deputy tahsildar of Ariyalur taluk after their leave request was denied.
Subsequently on Monday, 49 VAOs from the region assembled at the Ariyalur collectorate and attempted to submit a petition seeking reinstatement of the suspended VAOs. However, they were stopped by the police following which they squatted on the road and staged a protest. They claimed that the suspended VAOs were assaulted by the officials responsible for their suspension order. They also demanded a proper investigation into the issue. The protesters raised slogans in support of their demand.
On receiving information, police rushed to the spot and held talks with the protesters. Since the latter refused to give up their agitation, all of them were arrested.
