Salem hospital to be razed on Dec 10
A demolition notice has been issued to a private hospital in Salem district for encroaching upon a water channel.
Coimbatore
The Kurinji Hospital has been built encroaching upon the ‘Raja Vaikal’ on Five Road junction in Salem. Its high rise building has been blocking the water channel for about 20 feet in breadth and to a length of 100 feet. Tahsildar Chezhian issued the notice announcing about the decision to raze down the hospital on 10 December. The notice informing the same has been stuck in the hospital.
A circular has also been issued by the officials of the Public Health Department asking the private hospital not to admit any more patients, as the building is to be demolished. Also the existing patients, who are undergoing treatment, should be shifted to other hospitals.
When the media reached the hospital for coverage, the hospital administration hid the notice by placing a white paper on it. Tension prevailed for a while at the hospital. The revenue department has also issued similar notices to houses built encroaching the Raja Vaikal which is an outlet channel of Ismail Khan lake in Alagapuram. This stern action against the encroached buildings comes as Alagapuram was one among the residential areas that got inundated during the recent rains a month ago.
Residents, who were angry with the inaction of the administration, resorted to a protest demanding to remove encroachments in the Ismail Khan lake and its inlets channels. They complained encroachments to be the main reason for water inundation in their neighbourhood.
