Judicial Magistrate records statement of Kumbakonam rape victim

The rape victim narrated the entire episode to the magistrate from the time she alighted at the Kumbakonam railway station.

Meanwhile, the Bar association of Kumbakonam convened an emergency meeting on Thursday and passed a resolution instructing the members not to represent any of the accused in the case.

The meeting of the general council of the bar association was presided over by R Shankar, the president. After detailed discussion on the torture meted out to the victim from north India, the bar took a decision not to represent any of the accused in the court and also passed a resolution to the same effect.

The resolution of the association also demanded stringent punishment for all the accused. They termed that it was a brutal act by the youth. They claimed that Tamil Nadu, which was known for its hospitality, had invited the wrath within the state and outside after the gory incident.

They resolved not to represent the four accused youths in the case and also appealed to the advocates all over the state not to appear for them. The advocates also boycotted the courts on Thursday reiterating their demand and proper justice to the woman and pledged full support to the victim in her legal fight.

Meanwhile, the accused, who were nabbed by the police, were made to undergo potency test as it was a mandatory procedure in such cases. The police also moved the court seeking the custody of the accused for further investigations. However, sources added that the accused have confessed their offence.
