Kamal makes poll promise of revamping ‘toothless’ Lokayukta
Stating that the Lokayukta has become toothless, actor-turned-politician Kamal Hassan made it clear that his priority and election promise of his party Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) to the people of Tamil Nadu was its revamping after coming to power.
Addressing media at Kizhakkambalam, about 40 km from here on Monday night, Kamal said, “The Lokayukta has lost its teeth and his first priority and promise to the people in the ensuing Assembly election to Tamil Nadu to revamp it in order to make it more powerful.’’
“If the Lokayukta has more power, it would be like hanging sword on head of all people, including him,” he added.
He said he was taking advises and ideas from all politicians, who is in the limelight currently and would apply it as his own ideas. He will accept all good things from all leading politicians, irrespective of the party flag, but the final decision vested on his views.
Asked about money power in politics, he said “it is crime both accepting and providing money for votes to the public.” Both political parties and public were equally responsible for such crimes.
However, he claimed that people now have understand the negative aspects of accepting money for votes, and now people started to react and started to take pledge that they will not accept money for votes.
“There is a need to make aware the public about the negative aspect of offering money. The politicians are not giving money from their pocket. It is like an investment. The money that they were given would be collected back in the five year tenure,” the MNM Chief said.
Regarding the governments, Kamal said that the governments should be secular. Kamal also informed that his political baby would start acting from the next election to the Tamil Nadu Assembly.
To stop acting
Meanwhile, Kamal delivered yet another shock to his fans by stating that Shankar’s Indian 2 could be his last film and that he would dedicate his life fully to politics post its release. The 64-year-old had been speculated to be making a sequel to Devar Magan, as well as complete his long-pending multilingual film Sabaash Naidu before considering any other offers.
However, speaking at a press meet at Kizhakkambalam in Kerala, Kamal said, “My party Makkal Needhi Maiam will field candidates in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Tamil Nadu. I could give up acting after Indian 2, the shooting of which is to start on December 14.”
He has been giving contradicting statements since his entry into politics, once earlier stating that he would quit films for good, and then taking it back. He added that he would still continue to run his film production company that would finance and facilitate public programmes.
Kamal was in Kerala to inaugurate the gifting of 37 houses to poor families in NjaralloorColonyby the ‘Twenty-20’ and the Kizhakkambalam panchayat.
