Party seniors on Tuesday also urged the cadre to assemble at the Marina to pay homage to their late leader J Jayalalithaa. “The second death anniversary of the former chief minister is seen as an emotional convention among party cadres and we will certainly discuss the party’s future and the upcoming elections,” a senior AIADMK leader said adding that Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam will also address the cadres to pep them ahead of next year polls.

In case of the Delta region, where the districts have suffered the impact of Cyclone Gaja, party ministers and local MLAs have urged the cadres to observe Jayalalithaa’s anniversary by offering prayers. AIADMK organising secretary and Health Minister C Vijaya Baskar urged the party men to conduct prayer meetings. In a voice message to the party cadre the Minister said, “State has restored 95 per cent of the power connectivity in Cyclone Gaja-hit areas and even as the relief works are progressing it’s time for us to pay our homage to our beloved Amma on Wednesday.”

Meanwhile, Senior AIADMK leader and Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar is now meeting the party functionaries in North Chennai. “The bypolls and parliament elections are coming and if we stay united and campaign effectively, we can certainly defeat the DMK and the rebel AMMK,” he said in the latest advisory to his followers in North Chennai.

AMMK rebel leader TTV Dhinakaran had also planned a silent rally and is likely to hold meetings with his supporters to discuss the elections to the Parliament and the vacant assembly seats in Tamil Nadu.
