Police identified the couple as Mithinga Narzary (19) and Romala Brahma (18), both natives of Assam and employed as daily wagers at a poultry unit in Kattampatty near Negamam in Pollachi.
They were in relationship for the past six months. However, after deciding to get married, they approached their parents, who then asked them to return home by promising to get them married. Later, the couple feared that their families will separate them and commit suicide. The couple was found hanging in separate rooms in the poultry unit on Monday.
The Negamam police have registered a case and further inquiries are on.
Immolation over property issue:
In another incident, a father and son duo attempted suicide by immolation at the Erode collector office over a property issue. According to police, Karuppannan (70) and his son Murugesan (37) from Rangampalayam in Erode district came to collector office to submit a petition during the weekly grievance day meet on Monday.
Suddenly the duo took out a can of kerosene and poured onto themselves in a bid to commit suicide. However, the cops acted swiftly and snatched it away. They were then taken to Surampatty police station, where inquiries revealed that the father-son duo had purchased a house in Rangampalayam.
However, another woman, who is the daughter of the house owner, had claimed ownership and has been refusing to vacate the house. As the police failed to act, despite repeated petitions, the duo had decided to take the extreme step.
