Kanimozhi, Saroja locked in war of words over schemes for differently abled
A day ahead of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, state Social Welfare Minister V Saroja and DMK MP Kanimozhi were involved in a war of words, on the issue of welfare of differently abled persons.
Chennai
Both the leaders questioned each other for the welfare schemes implemented by the opposite parties, when they were in power. “The DMK did not initiate any welfare scheme for differently abled persons when they were in power and I openly challenge Kanimozhi for a debate on the DMK’s initiatives for the welfare of differently abled persons,” said Saroja on Sunday.
Recently, Kanimozhi accused the AIADMK government for not addressing the problems of differently abled persons and when Saroja who came to address a function was asked about Kanimozhi’s accusations on government, she listed out all the welfare schemes implemented by the current state government including the special bikes for differently- abled persons at a subsidised price and said that the AIADMK government is implementing schemes better than the DMK, which had not cared for the welfare of differently abled in the past.
When Kanimozhi was questioned about Saroja’s statement she said, “Repeated protests by the differently abled persons is proof that government is not functioning and the problems of differently abled persons are not solved.”
She also said that when late Chief Minister M Karunanidhi was in power the DMK government passed a Government Order that if differently- abled persons work for two years, on a temporary basis, they should be made permanent, but the order was not implemented by the government. She questioned theAIADMK for not implementing the government order for around 10 years and said that let Saroja answer her query and then she will join with her for a debate.

Just Rs 350 cr for cyclone relief, questions DMK
DMK Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi on Sunday slammed the Centre for allocating very low amount to Tamil Nadu for cyclone relief.
“Rs 3,000 crore for lifeless Patel statue, Rs 350 crore for Cyclone Gaja hit Tamils fighting to live,” Kanimozhi who is also the Women’s Wing secretary of the DMK posted on Twitter. The Union government on Saturday announced Rs 353 crore, against the Rs 15,000 crore sought by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami. Her party president MK Stalin had described the wish list submitted by the ruling AIADMK as insufficient. In fact, Stalin had accused Palaniswami of making a request with the Centre for Rs 15,000 in haste even without holding detailed assessment of cyclone damage.
Stalin’s appeal on differently abled issue
Meanwhile, Stalin made an appeal to the CM to earnestly consider the plea of physically challenged people and fulfill their demands, especially providing them education and jobs. Recalling the three per cent reservation extended to physically challenged people during the DMK tenure and a high level committee constituted to monitor implementation of the reservation, Stalin advised the incumbent government to adopt a humanitarian approach while handling issues related to physically challenged people.
