Jaya death anniv: AIADMK, AMMK plan rallies on Marina

The AIADMK has conveyed to all its party district secretaries that there would be a rally from Anna statue in Anna Salai proceeding towards the Amma memorial coming up at the Marina.

According to the AIADMK party sources, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam and other senior party leaders will preside over the homage function. After the homage, the AIADMK workers are also likely to take pledge on the principles followed by the AIADMK leaders. Besides floral tribute, a special address by the party convenor Panneerselvam and joint convenor Palaniswami is likely. The party usually offers free annadhanams and distributes freebies to mark the death of anniversaries of MGR and Jayalalithaa. But this time, due to Cyclone Gaja relief works, the AIADMK will be more focussed on Delta region, sources said.

Meanwhile, AMMK leader TTV Dhinakaran on Saturday wrote a letter to his followers asking them to throng to the shores of Marina to pay their homage for their iconic leader. The letter alleged that the ruling AIADMK was suffering at the hands of vested interests and it is our right to safeguard our parent AIADMK. AMMK is on the job of retrieving the party and will continue to carry forward the legacy of Amma. A silent rally will be organised by the AMMK from Anna Salai to Marina and all the followers of Amma should take part in the rally, the letter urged the AMMK cadres.

The AIADMK followers have also started posting on social media showering encomiums on the late leader and has termed December 5 as a black day in their life.
