A team of IT officials arrived in three cars around 4 pm on Thursday and searched the residence and various business establishments of former councillor Mohammed Agil in Pernambut town. The raids ended around 2 am on Friday and officials were seen leaving with many documents.

Official sources said, the raid was a sequel to the numerous complaints lodged by the public against the former four-time councillor Mohammed Agil (60) and his wife Nagina Banu (50), who also served as councilor for two terms. It is said that 25 years ago, Agil a resident of Sathgar village, earned a living by writing petitions and memo for the public in the common shandy. It is alleged that once Agil became the municipal councillor, his attitude changed and during his tenure, he possessed disproportionate assets to known sources of income. This allegation against him led to petitions by the locals and subsequently the IT raid.
