Delivering his address at the International Computer Security Day workshop organised by the Greater Chennai Police, Cyber Society of India and Voice of Voiceless, he noted that the TN CERT, will function like CERT India and will point out the online vulnerabilities, said Santosh Babu.

According to Santhosh Babu, securing cyber space is not just absolute necessity, but a national security issue. “Information is a commodity which is mined and sold in the grey market. We can prevent it to a certain extent, however, citizens should also take precautionary measures,” he added. Citing the example of Crime and Criminal Tracking Networks and Systems (CCTNS), he noted that it has vulnerabilities. Though it is secure, it is not as secure as the way we want, the officer said.

Cyber-Security Architecture will be set up jointly by ELCOT and C-DAC at a cost of Rs 21 crore. All websites should have to go through this system to see if intrusions are possible and how it is happening, the official said. It is expected to provide an intrusion prevention system for the government’s e-governance infrastructure. Free wi-fi will be provided to all village panchayats and police stations in the State.

Speaking at the function city police chief A K Viswanathan said that over 10,000 complaints linked to cybercrime were received during the last five years.
