Train crew avert mishaps, get General Managers pat
General Manager of Southern Railway (SR) RK Kulshrestha has rewarded two loco pilots and assistant loco pilots for averting probable mishaps through their cautious approach.

Loco pilots M Arun Kumar and D Bensly, assistant loco pilots Aseem S Hameed and Suresh Kumar Ganapath were rewarded with cash awards and merit certificate for preventing mishap by applying their presence of mind, a release issued by the SR said.
On November 5, Arun Kumar and Aseem S Hameed, crew of a goods train (Erode) experienced heavy jerk while passing Kagankarai in Jolarpet-Salem section.  Immediately, the loco pilot stopped the train, checked the tracks and train formation before alerting the station master and section engineers who noticed a weld failure. Subsequently, speed restriction was imposed in the section. Â
On November 21, Mangalore Mail piloted by D Bensly and Suresh Kumar Ganapath, while approaching Basin Bridge, noticed that the point was set towards Korukkupet and immediately stopped the train at the foot of the signal and ensured the passage of train in the correct direction. On both instances, the shrewd action of the train crew averted a potential mishap. Â
On Thursday, Kulshrestha appreciated their vigilant and timely action by presenting cash and merit certificates.
