Sarkar: Murugadoss refuses to apologise
Recording the submission of Sarkar director AR Murugadoss that he would neither apologise nor offer an undertaking that he would not criticise government policies, the Madras High Court on Wednesday directed the police to register a case if a cognizable offence is made out against the director or else close the case and report the outcome to the court within two weeks.

However, Justice GK Ilanthiraiyan while issuing the direction clarified that the interim order restraining the police not to arrest Murugadoss would continue until then and thereafter the court may examine the matter on merit.
In response to the submission made by public prosecutor A Natarajan on Tuesday that Murugadoss should give an undertaking that he would not criticise government policies in future movies, the counsel appearing for Murugadoss said he has categorically held that he will not be submitting any undertaking to refrain from criticising the govt as asked by the State, and that he is not bound to waive his fundamental right to free speech and expression accorded under Article 19 of the Indian Constitution.
“If an offence is made out, let them register a case,” the counsel added.
Justice Ilanthiraiyan also rejected an intervening petition moved by G Devarajan of Sembium seeking the arrest of Murugadoss.
Devarajan contended that the movie has created a negative impact about freebies and many people have been posting videos in the social media of breaking grinders, mixers and laptops supplied by the government.
To this, the Judge observed that if they break their own properties and not others, nothing can be done.
The Judge also noted that once the Censor Board clears a film there is nothing that can be done in seeking to either delete the reported objectionable portions or seek action against the director of the movie. He then suggested the petitioner to appeal on any objectionable scene in the movie to the Censor Board.
