According to Regional Deputy Director of Fisheries, Ramanathapuram, E Kathavarayan, the fishermen ventured into sea off Rameswaram coast on Wednesday.
It was alleged that a patrolling boat of the Sri Lankan Navy collided with the mechanised boat and detained the fishermen. They were in custody of Kankesanthurai police in the island country.
A case has been booked and the fishermen would be produced before a Sri Lankan court at Mallagam, the Deputy Director said after inquiring.
The arrested fishermen were identified as M Katturaja (52) of Karayoor, V Thangavel (52) of Rajiv Gandhi Nagar, M Ramu (51) of Seyyamangalam and N Varkis (45) of Paramakudi.
Already, eight fishermen remain in detention on charges of cross-border fishing. About five such incidents of apprehension had been reported since June this year, Kathavarayan said.
