Pallikaranai land row: Stay on mortgage continues
Even as Madras High Court refused to alter the interim stay restraining the registration dept from registering a mortgage deed of a private information tech firm in connection with 20 acres of Pallikaranai marshland allegedly as security for Rs 1360 crore loan, TN Forest Dept informed the court that no such marshland in Pallikaranai has been transferred to any private party as claimed in the PIL

V Subbaiah, District Forest Officer, Chennai, on filing a counter on behalf of the Conservation Authority of Pallikarani Marshland and DFO, Kancheepuram, said after the transfer of the marshland to the department from the Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department, no other alienation has been permitted by the department.
The sub-registrar, Saidapet, in a counter filed explained that the guideline value of the survey numbers in dispute was declared as zero since 2012 due to the increase in instances of fraudulent registrations.
But since the company – IG3 Infra Limited produced a patta issued by Sholinganallur Tahsildar, the guideline value of the land was fixed at Rs 3050 per square feet through a proceeding dated July 27, 2018, he added.
However, following allegation by the company that the petitioner Kalmin Agni Siragugal Trust was an encroacher of the marshland and hence cannot be permitted to move such pleas, a division bench of Justices M Sathyanarayanan and P Rajamanickam directed the petitioner to file an affidavit with a proof of his residence and posted the case for further hearing to December 10.
