Upset woman jumps into well with kids in Dindigul

While Ponnar (6) and Periyakkal (2) died, their mother Chellamal was rescued and is currently being treated at the Dindigul Government Hospital.

Dindigul Taluk police have filed a case under section 174 of CrPC. Investigations have revealed that Chellamal’s husband Balu, a farmer, allegedly had an illicit affair with the wife of his brother.

On learning this, Chellamal along with her children took the extreme step around 7 am on Saturday. People, who were present at the time of the incident, attempted to save their lives but could only manage to rescue Chellamal.

The bodies of her children were retrieved from the well and sent for a post-mortem examination. Chellamal was taken to the Dindigul Government Hospital.

Meanwhile, in another incident, a couple allegedly committed suicide by hanging in a house at Patharpuram in Tirunelveli district on Saturday.

The deceased have been identified as P Muthukumar (40), a casual labourer, and Lakshmi (35). The exact reason for their suicide is yet to be known.

Sources said Muthukumar used to quarrel with his wife often in a drunken mood and torture her. Nanguneri police are investigating into the incident based on a complaint lodged by Muthukumar’s father Paramasivan.
