“The Prime Minister and other relevant Central Ministers need to visit the affected regions immediately to gauge the situation and take necessary steps to enhance the relief process rather than the Chief Minister of the affected state visiting Delhi,” he stated.

He also suggested that the Chief Minister must appeal to the Prime Minister to declare the devastation as a L3 national disaster to request for adequate funds for relief.

The actor-politician distributed relief materials worth Rs 1.20 crore and demanded, “Enhanced compensation amount to the tune of Rs 20 lakh as opposed to the Rs 10 lakh being offered presently for those deceased in the disaster needs to be announced. Similarly, the compensation amounts declared for serious and minor injuries needs to be enhanced to Rs 10 and Rs 5 lakhrespectively.”

He also claimed that the quantum of funds being requested from the Union government seems to be an arbitrary figure and no information has been released about the post disaster need assessment, which is the basis to determine the required amount for rehabilitation and relief.

He also called for focused measures such as waiver of crop loans, grant of crop insurance awards and increase in compensation for the affected farmers.

When he reached Ammaiappan village in Tiruvarur, the public resorted to a road block. Kamal pacified and commended the people of Ammaiappan, Ammapettai and Kottur, who declined the food items saying they had sufficient food but needed electricity and allowed his team to take the relief materials to other areas in need.
