The process to digitise documents of properties, even those registered before 144 years in the State, is all set to begin by December first week. The entire work is expected to be completed within a year and after that the public could download the documents.

According to a department official, the State government recently sanctioned Rs 89.17 crore for the project. “The department will digitise the documents registered from 1865 to July 5, 2009. Tenders had already been floated to select suitable service providers,” the official said.

Meanwhile, IG (Registration) J Kumaragurubaran sent a departmental circular this week directing the sub-registrars to provide working space for the technicians deputed by the contractors. “The technicians will scan the documents and store them digitally. The sub-registrars, district registrars and deputy inspector generals should provide all the documents for scanning and then verify the scanned documents,” the circular said.

The scanning work would be done 24X7 (including holidays) and it would be completed in 12 months. The Department has been scanning and storing the documents registered after June 6, 2009. “The digital documents provided at Rs 25 will be available at Rs 50 per page after the works,” the official said.
