B Sujith Wilson, son of Britto Arockiaraj and Kalarani, a couple from Nadukattupatti village near Vengaikurichi, was playing in a field where his parents had sown maize at 5.30 pm when he fell into a borewell that had been abandoned for four years as ground water had dried up. His mother immediately rushed to his aid with the other neighbours and found Sujith stuck at a depth of 25 feet.
They soon alerted the Fire and Rescue personnel who rushed to the spot and started digging the ground with earth movers beside the borewell. Since the ground was wet due to continuous rain, digging became easy but after going down 10 feet, work slowed down as they hit rocky base. They then started drilling the ground and could reach upto 20 feet.
A team of do`ctors camping on the spot supplied oxygen and made lighting arrangements so the child wouldn’t panic. A special camera was also monitoring the child.
Ministers Vijaya Baskar, V Natarajan and Valarmathi supervised the efforts. Around midnight, reports came in that rescue operations suffered a setback as the boy had slipped further into the well. At the time of going to press, there was optimism that the boy would be rescued.
Entire nation prays for boy’s rescue
While the entire rescue team has been putting all its efforts to save the baby, the whole nation is praying for his rescue as well as good health while the ministers and their officials are camping to oversee the rescue operation at Nadukattupatti in Manapparai, Tiruchy, on Friday.
The social medial was also constantly updating about the rescue operations under #Savesujith. The baby, who fell into the abandoned borewell in their own field at Nadukattupatti in Manapparai around 5.30 pm and got stuck at 25 feet.
He fell into the borewell while trying to pick up the ball he had kicked into the ground.
Ministers C Vijaya Baskar, Vellamandi N Natarajan and S Valarmathi, who were present on the spot, continued to monitor the rescue operation. While the medical team was ready with their first-aid with an ambulance, the fire and rescue team with the help of the borewell robot that has been made available by Madurai youth Manikandan has been trying to rescue him at the earliest. Since the baby has been stuck with the hands raised, the rescue operation was made in such a way that the baby could be lifted with the support of rope noose locked on his one hand around 10 pm. Around 11 pm, the attempt for locking the other hand was made but the team could not lock it for several attempts.
“The rescue team has been trying to lift the baby after locking both the hands as they are raised. Since he is very tender in age, we have asked his parents to keep on talking to him and the baby has been responding to their calls. We have deputed officials of all the department especially the medical team which has been equipped with all medicines and support systems,” said Vijaya Baskar and added that the baby would be rushed to Manapparai GH once rescued.
