Sources said the final year Bcom student was reportedly in a relationship with Esakki Sankar (33) of the same village.

Esakki, who worked in the District Central Cooperative Bank, was allegedly murdered by an unidentified gang near Tamirabarani river banks on Tuesday.

Sources said both Esakki and the girl belonged to different castes. As there was an objection from the girl’s family, it is suspected that Esakki might have been a victim of honour killing.

However, police officials have declined to comment on the issue saying that investigations are on and truth behind the two incidents would be revealed once the probe is over.

While Ambasamudram police have filed a case under Section 302 of the IPC for the murder of Esakki, Veeravanallur police have booked a case under Section 174 of CrPC. in connection with the woman’s suicide.
