DMK assures of legal steps to end honour killings in state
Ending his silence on the brutal honour killing of an inter-caste couple of Hosur in Krishnagiri district, DMK president MK Stalin on Tuesday assured that legal steps would be taken to end caste killings and punish people engaging in such brutalities.

“As DMK president and son of Karunanidhi, I assure you that when DMK forms government in next election, legal steps will be taken to prevent caste killings and strictly punish people engaging in such brutalities,” Stalin said, writing for party organ ‘Murasoli’ on the 102nd anniversary of Justice Party.
Describing the double murder of Swathi-Nandeesh of Hosur allegedly by her own kin and kith as an “unpardonable crime,” Stalin said, “If the parents had reservations to their daughter marrying a person loved by her, they could have sorted it out through talks within the legal framework. But, killing one’s daughter and her husband for caste pride is unpardonable crime.”
Expressing remorse and shock at the repeated occurrence of such brutalities (honour killings) in recent times, Stalin took exception to the incumbent rulers getting into denial mode during such caste killings and said the indifference and denial of the ruling dispensation has emboldened caste fanatics and the brutalities perpetrated by them has become regular. Remarking that some people were levelling unnecessary criticism that the DMK was ignoring and not condemning such caste killings, the DMK president said the DMK would not support caste fanaticism in any form.
“I say with certainty that the DMK would successfully face the ensuing election with the support of people who desire communal harmony and social integrity,” the DMK president added. Stalin and his party faced flak from the liberal minded people, mainly on social networking sites during the last few days for keeping mum on the double murder of Hosur couple. The party was criticised over a couple of years ago for not voicing strongly against the murder of Dalit youth Udumalpet Sankar by his caste Hindu wife Kausalya’s parents.
