Boiler snag hits one unit in TTPS
Power generation in one of the five units in Tuticorin Thermal Power Station (TTPS) was suspended following a breakdown on Thursday. The breakdown occurred around 11.30 am in the first unit after the boiler tube suffered a puncture. The unit that has a generation capacity of 210 MW, was detected with a steam leak.

A team of technical experts are attending to the problem, which is expected to be set right maxi-mum by Friday. Except the first unit, which suffered a breakdown, four other units with 210 MW capacity each, are functioning normal.
Since the electricity consumption demand has in-creased in the recent past, all five units of the TTPS were continuously operated over the last seven consecutive days as per directive from Load Despatch Centre (LDC). Though, the daily average consumption of electricity in the State was between 13,000 MW and 14,000 MW, on Wednesday, the consumption exceeded this level and touched 14,300 MW.
Moreover, energy sourced from wind turbines declined drastically. Wind pattern will not be stable during this period of the year. However, solar power generation remained con-stant, recording 1,200 MW a day from panels in Kamuthi, Virudhunagar, Arupukkottai, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli and Ramnad. For solar power generation, the Tirunelveli circle has an in-stalled capacity of 1,173 MW, sources said.
