Labourer ends life after killing wife, mother-in-law
A construction labourer stabbed his wife and mother-in-law to death before committing suicide at his in-law’s house in Pollachi near Coimbatore on Tuesday night.
Coimbatore
Frequent quarrels broke out between Babu, 48, from Podanur and his wife Sumathi, 42, from Cheran Colony in Pollachi, over not having a child even after 15 years of marriage.
Sumathi left to her mother’s house two years ago but Babu visited her a few times and persuaded her to come with him. However, she refused to go with him and also sought a divorce by issuing a notice two months ago.
Infuriated over the divorce proposal, Babu went to his mother-in-law Visalakshi’s house post-midnight on Tuesday. He jumped over the compound wall and barged into the house by forcing open the loosely latched front doors.
When 60-year-old Visalakshi questioned him, Babu took out a knife and slit her throat. A panicked Sumathi tried to escape but he overpowered her and also her throat was slit. Both the women died on the spot by bleeding profusely.
Babu then committed suicide by hanging using a rope tied to the ceiling of the house. The incident came to light on Wednesday morning when Sumathi’s brother Prakash residing in the neighbouring house, noticed blood stains in front of the house. On suspicion, Prakash entered into the house and found his mother and sister lying dead in a pool of blood, while Babu was found hanging dead. On receiving information, the Pollachi East police arrived and sent the bodies of the deceased persons for post-mortem at Pollachi GH.
Police have registered a case and further inquiries are on.
