Soorasamharam: Tiruchendur ready to host devotees
All arrangements are in place for the convenience of devotees, who are expected to throng Tiruchendur to witness the ‘Soorasamharam’, the highlight of the Kanda Sashti festival.

Amidst a huge gathering of devotees, the Sashti festival began on November 8. ‘Thirukalyanam’, which is slated for November 14, is another key event of the festival at Subramaniya Swamy temple, the second abode of Lord Murugan.
The Soorasamharam is scheduled on Tuesday evening, according to Thoothukudi Collector Sandeep Nanduri. Around 10 lakh devotees, from abroad and within the country, are expected to witness the ‘Soorasamharam’ this year.
Talking to reporters in Thoothukudi on Monday, the Collector said as many as 3,000 police personnel have been deployed on security duty at the temple. Besides, double barricading has also been put up along at Tiruchendur beach to regulate crowd, he added.
Informing that 10 LED giant screens have been put up at various locations for the convenience of devotees to witness the event, he said that 300 sanitary workers would work in three shifts to clear the garbage. Totally 100 temporary toilets and eight temporary shelters have been set up to cater to the needs of devotees.
For easy commutation, 250 special buses were being operated from Madurai, Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli to Tiruchendur. Within the
Town, 15 mini buses were being plied from Tiruchendur bus stand to temporary parking stops near the temple.
In addition to these, a photo exhibition has been organised by the Department of Information and Public Relations to create awareness about welfare schemes launched by various government departments among the people, he said.
