Risky business: Cops crack down on stunt videos by reckless youth
The police have launched a crack down on youngsters who indulge in high-risk acts on buses and trains and circulate videos of their daredevilry. They are trying to trace the source of at least two such videos that recently went viral on social media.
Chennai
In one of the videos, a youngster is seen travelling on a bus with his feet placed on the rear tyre even as he clings to the window bars. In another video, two youth, claiming to be fans of actor Vijay, brandish machetes and are seen threatening to kill those who dare to damage the banners of movie Sarkar. Police said they are trying to ascertain the identities of all the three youth.
“We have checked with heads of fan clubs. But, we are yet to get anything concrete about the video of the two Vijay fans,” police said. Despite police action against college students for travelling on the footboard in MTC buses and EMUs, the trend is continuing.
Though the route number of city bus is not clear in the latest video, it is evident that the bus was climbing a flyover probably in Chennai. While the youth is seen carelessly keeping his feet in the middle of the wheel as he holds on to the window, his friends cheer him, even as stunned motorists look on. The video is said to have been uploaded on the Tik Tok app by a user called Mersal Bala. “We are trying to ascertain his identity,” a police officer said.
Regarding the second video, the cyber-crime wing of the Central Crime Branch has sought details of the duo who allegedly made the murder threat. In a press release, police said the suspects’ details could be furnished over phone by calling the numbers 044 23452 348 and 044 23452350.
Last week, following protests against Sarkar over certain scenes which were critical of the government, the video by the two youngsters went viral. The duo also made lewd remarks against protesters and threatened to ‘finish’ those who tear the movie banners at theatres.
A senior MTC official said, “We have not received any complaint with regard to the video. From the grab, it is difficult to identify the bus corporation or its location due to the uniform color code followed for all town buses acrossthe state.”
