Sarkar row: CM tears into actors’ salary, producers
Chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Saturday broke his silence over the controversy raging against Sarkar starring Vijay. The AIADMK has been protesting against some parts of the film which they allege showed their late leader J Jayalalithaa in bad light.

“Besides charging Rs 50 crore as salary for a movie, what good have these stars done for Tamil Nadu,” asked Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, while addressing reporters at Coimbatore airport.
“As far as I am concerned the Sarkar issue is resolved. The filmmakers invest crores to make movies, but where is the money coming from? They sell Rs 100 ticket at Rs 1,000 fleecing fans,” EPS said, adding, if freebies have to be stopped as shown in the film and if the State should the state stop free education as well.
The AIADMK leader also took a dig at Kamal Haasan recalling his statement about him wanting to leave the country. “How can Kamal become a leader if he wanted to leave the country at one stage,” EPS said.
Sarkar landed in controversy not because of AIADMK but because of the public who are protesting the movie for showing social welfare schemes in bad light. We have a list of Muragadoss’s relatives who received the freebies, the CM said. EPS also took pot shots on Chandra Babu Naidu, who recently met DMK leader MK Stalin to form a coalition that will unseat the BJP and the AIADMK. “I want to know whether Stalin and Naidu discussed check dams being constructed across Palar river in Andhra,” the CM said.
To a query on the political developments in Sri Lanka, the CM said Sirisena has murdered the democracy of Sri Lanka by dissolving the Parliament. When asked about the dengue break outs, Palaniswami said that the state has taken several measures to fight dengue.
TTV questions silence during Poes Garden raids
Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam leader TTV Dhinakaran slammed AIADMK ministers for raking up the Sarkar movie issue. He said that the AIADMK was protesting against the movie as a tactic to divert the corruption charges against the state ministers. He also questioned the AIADMK ministers who are protesting now for being silent when the Income-Tax Department raided Poes Garden, the residence of the late AIADMK leader J Jayalalithaa. The movie promoted by the DMK family has vested interests and there is no need to rake up this issue, Dhinakaran said. It was only the AMMK that is protesting against the Centre now and then, he noted.
