Speaking to the media after an interaction with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu for about 45 minutes at his residence in Alwarpet, Stalin said, “There is a need for all opposition parties, regional party leaders to unite and fight the BJP and its authoritarian rule and I have given my wholehearted assurance to the efforts taken by Chandrababu Naidu in that direction.”
The DMK leader said there would be a national level meeting at a common place comprising all the regional party leaders to consider the steps to fight the BJP. “I assured him (Naidu) that I will participate in the meeting,” he added and pointed out that a decision was made in this regard after Naidu had an elaborate discussion with him.
Stalin also said that a common minimum programme will be arrived at as was the case earlier. “The common minimum programme was initiated by Kalaingnar (late M Karunanidhi) long back. It will figure in the meeting to take this initiative forward,” he added.
He also pointed out that the DMK was the first party to support Naidu after he met All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi. The DMK leader said all regional parties have to unite to defeat the BJP government that snatches away states’ autonomy. “Whether it is CBI or RBI, the BJP government has not allowed these agencies to function independently,” he added.
