Tamil translation on plaque of Patel’s statue goes awry
The ‘Statue of Unity’, the world’s tallest at 182 metres, may have made headlines globally, but one group of people within the country are quite miffed.

Tamils are upset – not with the statue – but a signboard that featured the name of the statue in several languages. Several commentators on Twitter said the Tamil translation of the statue was just ‘gibberish’. While the statue claims to unite the country, the faux pas while translating its name into one of the 22 languages which has an official status has been pointed out and ridiculed. Officials had to quickly cover the translation, ostensibly to rectify the error.
