Maid arrested for stealing cash, jewels from house
The accused, Ammu’s husband Shakthivel, a gana singer, did not have proper income and so she resorted to stealing for the welfare of her two children

The city police have arrested a 38-year-old maid for stealing three sovereigns and Rs 3 lakh cash from a house in KK Nagar.The accused, S Ammu (38) of MGR Nagar, was working in Chenniyappan’s house on Azhagirisamy Salai in KK Nagar for the last four years, said the police. Chenniyappan, who manufactures components for windmills in Ekkaduthangal, and his family used to leave the house keys with Ammu whenever they travelled, said police.Ammu, who had access to the cupboards in the bedrooms, slowly started stealing cash and jewels from the house. Chenniyappan noticed the jewels missing and lodged a complaint at KK Nagar police station. Police inquired Ammu and she admitted to the crime. Police said that Ammu’s husband Shakthivel, a gana singer, did not have proper income and she resorted to stealing for the welfare of her two children.Diamond stolen from women’s hostelA pair of diamond ear studs of a college student was stolen from a ladies’ hostel in Royapettah.The victim, Lakshmi Venugopal Menon of Kerala, who studies Visual Communication in a private college, had gone to her hometown on October 17.When she returned to the hostel on Saturday, she found the lock of her room tampered with and her diamond ear studs and some other valuables stolen. Based on her complaint, the Royapettah police have registered a case and are inquiring her inmates.
