TN CM lays foundation for Dr Sivanthi Aditanar memorial at Tiruchendur
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami along with Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam laid the foundation stone for Dr Sivanthi Aditanar Memorial via video conferencing in a function held at Tamil Nadu Secretariat.

The memorial, to come up at Veerapandianpattinam village in Tiruchendur, is expected to be completed in six months. Minister for Information and Public Relations, Kadambur Raju said the government had earlier floated tender for the construction of the memorial. Of the total area, 78.41 square metres will be allocated for the memorial and the rest for library and other facilities. The government has already sanctioned Rs 1.34 crore for the memorial in line with the Chief Minister’s announcement made on November 22, 2017, during the birth centenary celebrations of AIADMK founder MGR at Thoothukudi. On Friday, the Chief Minister also spoke of Dr Aditanar’s contribution to the development of media, education and sports.The ceremony at Sivanthi academy, within the premises of Aditanar college at Tiruchendur, was attended by District Collector Sandeep Nanduri, Information and Publicity Minister Kadambur Raju, Minister for Cooperatives Sellur K Raju, MLA Shanmuganathan and MLA H Vasantha Kumar. Maalai Malar director B Sivathi Adityan and Madavan Adityan took part in the event. Dr Sivanthi Aditanar, former chairman of Thanthi group, was a renowned philanthropist who catered to the educational needs of marginalized people of southern Tamil Nadu. He funded innumerable temples across Tamil Nadu, and renovated the 178 feet 'Rajagopuram' of Tenkasi Arulmigu Kasivishvanathar temple. The Government of India awarded him Padma Shri in the year 2008 in recognition of his distinguished service in the field of Literature and Education.
