Two days after actor-politician Rajinikanth said that 90 per cent of work involved in starting his party is over, the 67-year-old held discussions with key office bearers of the Rajini Makkal Mandram (RMM) at the Raghavendra Kalyana Mandapam here on Monday.

The Kaala star is said to have discussed the upcoming launch of his party and the functioning of the Mandram with Raju Mahalingam, Illavarasan and other functionaries.

He has also reportedly consulted his family members, friends and well-wishers on a suitable date for the launch function. A RMM source told DTNext that talks are currently under way to finalise a location for the function. “After nearly a year of waiting, there is massive anticipation from people nationally. Since we are expecting over a lakh in attendance, there is a need for a suitable venue. As of now, Chennai seems to be the likely place for the launch. However, some other cities are in consideration as well,” the source added.

During a brief interaction with reporters at the Chennai airport, Rajinikanth, who was returning from Varanasi after completing shooting for his upcoming film Petta, was quizzed about the rumoured launch of his political party on December 12.

Although he denied any such plans, he said that 90 per cent of works is over. A day later, his elder brother Sathyanarayana weighed in on the issue and said an announcement on the launch date will be made by the end of the year.

It is to be recalled that Rajinikanth’s contemporary Kamal Haasan launched his Makkal Needhi Maiam at a public meeting in Madurai earlier this year.
